HR consultancy and board experience
Sue has run a management and HR consultancy and held a number of board director positions. She helped establish Mediation Rescue in 2016.
This background brings an understanding of organisational responsibilities, employee relations and the practical pressures facing those who manage people.
Professional qualifications and development
Sue’s qualifications include BA, BSc and MSc degrees. Her BSc is in Psychology.
She is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD, an accredited Workplace and Community Mediator, and holds the Acas Certificate in Internal Workplace Mediation.
During her career, Sue has studied different approaches to workplace conflict resolution, including the use of mediation in complex industrial relations disputes in the USA.
Workplace Mediation and team conflict
Sue’s mediation experience encompasses interpersonal conflict, cultural integration, performance management, mental health issues, and allegations of harassment and discrimination.
Team disputes can involve several overlapping relationships, with difficulties between individuals affecting the wider group. Sue brings together her mediation experience and understanding of organisational life to help participants explore those relationships and consider a workable way forward.
The process should fit the particular conflict and the individuals involved in it. Depending on the circumstances, support may include individual conversations, mediation, conflict coaching or a combination of approaches.
Training and mentoring in-house mediators
Sue has designed and delivered courses to train in-house mediators for a number of large organisations, including a large retail chain. She also provides mentoring to new in-house mediators.
Her experience includes working alongside internal mediators, combining an external perspective with their knowledge of the organisation. This supports Mediation Rescue’s work with organisations developing their own mediation capability, including external/internal Co-Mediation.
Conflict coaching
Sue offers conflict coaching to employees involved in disputes. This provides individual support to think through the conflict and prepare for difficult conversations.
Conflict coaching forms part of Mediation Rescue’s flexible approach to helping people address damaged or difficult working relationships.
Community Mediation and mental health experience
Sue is also an accredited Community Mediator. She has worked with mental health charities to resolve conflicts between people living with a range of mental health issues.
She draws on this experience, where appropriate, in both Workplace Mediation and Community Mediation, keeping the circumstances and needs of the individuals central to the process.
Working in a co-mediation team
Sue has extensive experience of co-mediating complex disputes. She works with colleagues in carefully composed mediation teams, bringing complementary perspectives and styles to the conversation.
Her background in employee relations, HR consultancy, board roles and mediator development contributes to Mediation Rescue’s approach: two pairs of eyes and ears, with the team composed around the conflict and the people involved.
